Generally speaking there are two forms of divine retribution in Hinduism. One is when God descends to earth as an incarnation with specific intent to slay an evil person or certain evil persons. For example in His incarnation as Rama He slew Ravana.

The second is universally applicable through the law of karma in which we suffer in our future lives as a result of sins committed in our past lives. This is not considered as divine retribution by some because there is no direct involvement of God. It proceeds as a natural law.
